Is it too early to start thinking about spring?
Jazz Stains, CJSW 90.9 FM, January 30 2009
wow! I’m lovin’ this weather. hoodies. girls in skirts. more smiles everywhere and it doesn’t take an hour to get a cab. pretty frakin’ sweet.
So, I’m going to take a break from some of the older bandstand jazz I’ve been exploring lately; i’m going to use the first hour to explore some of the earlier works of great “names” in jazz…early miles, early chet, etc…I’m really looking forward to this change, but don’t worry I’ll still pull out the occassional Glenn Miller beauty.
In the second hour i start with the first side of People Get Ready, The Freedom Sounds ft. Wayne Henderson. It should prove a nice pick me up after the first hour — a little shot of caffeine.
The third hour features virgin pops (which should be a band name) — untouched vinyl getting it’s first spin; truly one of the great splendours for an audiophile is fresh wax: a 2006 recording off of Rapster Records. Louie Vega presents Luisito Quintero, Percussion Madness. And other good stuff, of course.
